Directed by Francis Ford Coppola and starring Marlon Brando, Al Pacino as well as James Caan, this film was released back on March 15, 1972, and won three Academy Awards (Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Writing-Screenplay Based on Material from Another Medium) and was nominated for eight more, making this film one of the best gangster movies of all time. This three hour long movie is one of those that you must watch during your lifetime. “The Godfather” has two, also successful sequels (Part II and III).

2) Pulp Fiction (1994)

When Quentin Tarantino is the director of a movie, then we can guess it is a brilliant one. As that’s the case, “Pulp Fiction”, starring John Travolta, Uma Thurman and Samuel L. Jackson is the 7th Top Rated movie on IMDB with a rating of 8.9. Having won an Oscar (Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen) and being nominated for 6 more Academy Awards, this gangster black comedy movie is a huge success and one of the best gangster movies. It was released on May 12, 1994, at the Cannes Festival.

3) Goodfellas (1990)

Next on our Top 15 best gangster movies list is the biographical gangster film released on September 19, 1990 and directed by Martin Scorsese, “Goodfellas”. Based on the book from Nicholas Pileggi,”Wiseguy: Life in a Mafia Family” this movie featuring stars such as Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta and Joe Pesci proved to be a major success. Having won an Oscar (Best Actor in a Supporting Role) and being nominated in six other categories, “Goodfellas” has an IMDB rating of 8.7 and is one of the best gangster films of all time.
